The Dumb One Diet
We’ve all heard the popular quote: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” While I’m not convinced that this means I’m destined to be just like my friends, I believe the people we surround ourselves with can greatly impact our personal growth.
Here’s a tip: if you’re always the smartest person in the room, you’re probably not in the right room. Being the big fish in a small pond can be comfortable, but it won’t help you grow. On the other hand, if you’re the “dumb one” in a group, that’s where the magic happens. You’ll be exposed to new ideas, perspectives, and ways of thinking that will help you broaden your horizons and become a more well-rounded person.
Putting yourself in that position can be uncomfortable, but it’s worth it. Think of it like a workout – you lift weights to challenge your muscles, then rest and recover to let them grow. The same applies to your brain. Seek out people who challenge you, have different backgrounds and experiences, and can offer new insights into the world. Embrace the discomfort, take some time to recover, and watch your mind grow stronger.
If you’re consistently putting yourself in rooms (or virtual ones) where you are the “dumb one,” it’s a good sign you’re going to grow.
